I have been working very hard this past month to get my office/sewing room/creative work space a big makeover! I am so excited to be in the “putting it all together” stage now! There will be a post coming soon of the before and after photos. I just love how it looks and it is so functional for my needs to design newborn photography props! In the meantime, here is a sneak peak into an area of my space that I have turned into my children’s craft/drawing area.

I could not find a round children’s table that suited the look I was after or was big enough for what I wanted.  So I ended up doing a little Ikea Hack on the Vejmon Coffee table!  It was the perfect diameter and height but it had a second shelf underneath the table top.

I liked it but my children would not be able to get their knees under the table.  So I simply just left the lower shelf out when I assembled it!  I was concerned about it being wobbly but it is just fine and sturdy!! LOVE!  So I had the table with the look I wanted but was concerned how the laminate  top would wear to paint, water, glue, markers etc.  So next came a removable vinyl table top cover!

• 45″ x 45″  size of vinyl (8 gauge)
• 90″ of elastic 1″ wide
• straight pins
• safety pin

Lay the vinyl on a hard floor surface. Turn the table upside down.

Take a ruler and measure 3″ from the edge of table. Make a dot marking with a sharpie every couple of inches all the way around the table. This will make a dotted circle 3″ wider then the actual table to make a template to cut the vinyl.

Cut the vinyl with scissors following the dotted line you have measured out.

Fold the vinyl over about 2″ to make a casing. Use straight pins to pin it.  You will have to make and pin down little pleats in the vinyl as you go around.

Sew the casing all around. I used a regular needle and white thread. Make sure to leave a 1.5 ” opening.

Secure the end of elastic to a large safety pin.  Here is the hard part! Push pin and elastic through the opening and all around back and out of the opening.

Fit the cover over the table.  Pull the elastic as tight as you can so the cover is snug over the edge of the table. Tie the two ends in a double knot and trim the ends.  Push the elastic into the casing and sew the opening shut.

Here is what your finished cover looks like completed!

Now stretch it back over the table and voila! You are finished!

As soon I was finished my children promptly covered the table with glue, glitter, ribbon, paper etc! I sat back and enjoyed watching them make art knowing their new craft table was protected! So easy to clean with a damp cloth too!

VERY exciting news for Baby Joy Studios this week!  Jessica Simpson’s baby Maxwell can be seen wearing a Baby Joy Studios headband for the cover photograph of the June 14th People Magazine!   Want to know the whole story?! …

Early this week I received an email from a client saying that she was a stylist and had used one of my headbands she had purchased from Baby Joy Studios to style a photo for the cover of People magazine.  I thought it was a joke and was even nervous to open the link she sent in case I was getting spammed.  I decide to open the link and this is what I saw!

I could not believe my eyes! Sweet baby Maxwell is wearing my {vintage Bloom headband} !   As it turns out Jessica’s stylist is a very good friend of Jessica.  She purchased some headbands from my Etsy Shop and gave them to Jessica for her baby shower present.  When they went to style the photo session for the cover photo of  People they used clothing items from baby Maxwell’s closet and the vintage bloom headband matched the dress perfectly!  Congratulations to Jessica for her beautiful baby girl! Just love her pouty lips!

The Vintage Bloom headband was actually the first headband I ever made when I opened Baby Joy Studios one year ago!  It continues to be my best seller too!  A delicate tiny headband made of patched cotton with raw edges. Tips of the petals have been hand dyed for a vintage feel. So soft, mohair ties flow from the flower. Tell us a little about yourself and your business.
I’m a self taught photographer who’s built my business from the ground up; learning all I can about photography from online classes, in person workshops and seminars, and tons of reading and practice!  My business education started way before I began photography.  I’ve owned my own businesses since 1995, so at least I had that under my belt before I began to learn the art of photography!

What do you like the most about your job?
Snuggling with newborns every day!  I think I have withdrawals if I don’t have a baby in my arms. lol

How do you come up with inspirations for new ideas?
I peruse anything I can find that speaks “pure, natural or organic.”  It can be magazines, clothing, furniture, or a vintage store.  I see something that sparks an idea and then my mind just goes crazy!

How do you balance your business and family life?
Well, all my kids are practically grown now.  My youngest graduates high school in a few weeks, so I pretty much have my days to myself.  When there’s an event or something going on, I just plan it in my schedule and do it.  I am a bit of a workaholic though, I must admit.  I love what I do and sometimes it’s hard to pull me away.

Anything you would like to add?
I love life!  Every day is a new adventure for me and I try to live it to the fullest!!

Tell us a little about yourself and your business.
My name is Lexi Vornberg and I am a portrait photographer based in Cincinnati, Ohio.  I started Lemonade and Lenses last June as a gathering group for local photographers to meet, chat, eat and be merry.  After our local gathering group was formed L&L branched into a blog and from there into a digital magazine that eventually became a printed magazine.   And here I am today.

What do you like the most about your job?
Being able to make the photography community a better place.

How do you come up with inspirations for new ideas?
We have so many amazing contributors for our magazine so all the inspiration comes from them

How do you balance your business and family life?
HAHA, my business is my family life.  I only 23 so I don’t have children yet and my husband works 8-5 so I work 8-5 and then some.  I truly enjoy what I do so I don’t always see it as work.
